The Department of Surgery at the University of California, Davis located in Sacramento California, seeks to hire a full-time Colorectal Surgeon and Chief of the Division of Colorectal Surgery at the associate or full professor level in the Health Science Clinical Professor, Clinical X or In-Residence series. The Division of Colorectal Surgery is a Rectal Cancer Center of Excellence accredited program by the American College of Surgeons, one of nine in the United States.  

Expectations of a Clinical X series is to engage in teaching, research, service and clinical work, appointees the In-Residence series are required to participate in teaching, research, University/public service, and patient care and appointees of the HSCP series is to engage in clinical work, teaching and to support departments research mission.

The ideal candidate should have acquired a history of progressive leadership and administration in addition to experience in clinical and educational programs, including successful research activities in basic science, clinical outcomes or translational research.  The Chief will provide a strategic and operational plan that will lead to substantial growth of the colorectal division and establish the program as the regional leader for patients with both malignant and benign diseases of the colon and rectum. They will also maintain the ACS Rectal Cancer Center of Excellence accreditation and work with our NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center.   The ideal candidate will also lead program growth in pelvic floor disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, and complex anorectal conditions.

Basic Qualifications:

Qualified candidates must possess a Medical Degree, must be board certified/eligible in Colorectal Surgery; and have completed an approved Colorectal Fellowship. The candidate must acquire a California Medical License before the appointment start date; and obtain a California Fluoroscopy Operator’s Permit within the first year of appointment.  The ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment is also required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Include experience with basic and complex colorectal surgery, including minimally invasive and robotic surgery.  Specific training and experience with transanal total mesorectal excision in rectal cancer.  The ideal candidate will have vision and willingness to grow a program of excellence.
