Summary

• Assists the flow of patient care to make certain needs are met in a timely fashion. Communicates with other members of the specialty team to facilitate the care of the patient and the goals of the Bariatrics team.

• This position works under the supervision of the Director and the operating surgeon and is employed by Mosaic Health System.

Duties

• Assumes responsibility for setting up and passing instruments, labeling medications, holding retractors, assisting the surgeon, and assists with circulating duties as necessary. Applies principles of asepsis and infection control skillfully
• Applies knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology and operative technique relative to operative procedures wherein the STFA assists.
• Provides exposure through appropriate use of instruments, retractors, suctioning and sponging techniques.
• Handles tissue as directed by the surgeon during the operative procedure.
• Assists with positioning, prepping, draping of the patient, and with transfer of the patient to and from the operating room.
• Applies surgical dressings.

Qualifications

• Completion of an approved surgical technologist education program. Completion of accredited course in surgical assisting or first assisting within two (2) years. Completion of accredited LPN program is required.
• CST - Certified Surgical Tech is required. BLS certification required. LPN  - Licensed Practical Nurse - State Licensure is required.
• Five years diversified perioperative scrubbing experience preferred. Three to six months minimum to learn job is required.
